Its origins trace back to a Slavic ringwork from the 9th century, around which a fortified settlement developed, first recorded in written sources during the 11th century. What survives today includes a two storey timber framed dwelling and a round tower, remnants of a rectangular, fort like layout. Left overgrown and largely forgotten for decades, the site has since been cleared and restored through the efforts of local associations.
