To make a day of it

Burg Püttlingen stands in Püttlingen (Regionalverband Saarbrücken), in Saarland, Germany. The building is a listed Baudenkmal. Recorded dating: 14th century. No visits are on record for this building.

Of Burg Püttlingen, a moated stronghold raised in the mid 14th century, only one tower still stands, the Hexenturm, now set within Püttlingen's town park. The complex was destroyed during the Thirty Years' War, its stones later reused to rebuild the burned-down village. The surviving tower was not part of the original castle but was built later, in the 16th century, as a prison tower, grimly linked to the trial and execution of fourteen women accused of witchcraft. A marked spot and an information panel now show where the medieval foundations were uncovered during excavations in 2002.
