Burg Pungelscheid stands in Werdohl (Märkischer Kreis), in North Rhine-Westphalia, Germany. The building is a listed Baudenkmal. Recorded dating: 13th century. No visits are on record for this building.
Burg Pungelscheid was a medieval stronghold raised around 1300 on a hilltop in the Sauerland region, near the Ebbegebirge range, at Werdohl. A lightning strike set it ablaze in 1797, leaving only part of a round tower and a vaulted cellar standing. A farmhouse, still inhabited today, now occupies the former castle grounds, crossed by the road Alt Pungelscheid, where an old forge and a historic oat storehouse can still be seen. No visible remains of the original castle structure survive above ground.
