Burg Lantershofen stands in the lower Ahr valley, on a site settled since Frankish times and counted among the oldest known settlements on the left bank of the Ahr within the district. The present building dates from the early 18th century, but it replaced earlier fortifications repeatedly destroyed and rebuilt through successive wars, including a medieval stronghold recorded from the Middle Ages onward. The estate long belonged to the Blankart family before passing by inheritance to several noble lines and later into private hands during the 20th century. Since 1939 the building has housed a seminary, which limits its accessibility as a visitable monument.
