To make a day of it
Burg Lahr stands in Burglahr (Landkreis Altenkirchen), in Rhineland-Palatinate, Germany. The building is a listed Baudenkmal. Its opening hours and prices have not been verified at the source yet.
Burg Lahr rises above the wooded gorge of the Wied river, in the northern Westerwald, on an isolated rocky outcrop once nearly encircled by the water on three sides. Only a round keep almost 25 metres high, fully restored in 2014 and 2015, still stands among the ruins, along with remnants of walls, foundations and traces of the old moat. Abandoned as a ruin from the 18th century onward and later quarried for stone, the structure was only structurally secured in the 20th century. The site has no visitor facilities, though a wooden hut built within the ruin can be rented for events.
