To make a day of it

Burg Holdersberg stands in Idstein (Rheingau-Taunus-Kreis), in Hesse, Germany. The building is a listed Baudenkmal. No visits are on record for this building.

Burg Holdersberg is an early medieval earthwork fortification built on a rocky spur north of the Niederauroff district of Idstein, in Hesse. No excavation finds or written records exist to date its construction or name its builders, though nearby archaeological finds link it to the Frankish period. Visitors today can trace several ramparts and ditches that once guarded the only easy approach, from the east, while steep slopes protected the other sides. The stronghold, apparently never completed, is thought to have served as a military refuge rather than a settlement, and is considered a possible forerunner of the later Burg Idstein.
