The Jagdschloss Niederwald stands in the Niederwald forest, high above Rüdesheim am Rhein and Assmannshausen. Built in the 18th century as a hunting lodge for the counts von Ostein, it burned down and was rebuilt in a changed form, later becoming a notable site in German constitutional history. The building now operates as a hotel and restaurant, set within a landscaped forest area popular with walkers.
