To make a day of it

Burg Hirschberg (Balingen) stands in Heselwangen (Zollernalbkreis), in Baden-Württemberg, Germany. Its opening hours and prices have not been verified at the source yet.

Burg Hirschberg is a vanished medieval fortification set on a rocky spur 722 metres above sea level, overlooking the village of Heselwangen east of Balingen. First recorded in 1378 and attributed to ministerial knights serving the counts of Zollern-Schalksburg, it survives today only as faint traces of ditches and earthworks in the landscape. Long doubted as a historical site, its existence was confirmed by archaeological excavations in the 1950s, which uncovered pottery fragments from the 12th and 13th centuries. The ruin holds a notable place in the local legends of the town of Balingen.
