Burg Hauenstein is a ruined hilltop castle in the Bavarian Spessart, standing between the Hauenstein farm and Mensengesäß within the municipality of Krombach. Built before 1300, likely under the authority of the counts of Rieneck, it was destroyed as early as 1405 on the order of King Ruprecht, who regarded it as a robber knights' stronghold. Today visitors find modest but genuine remains: a vaulted cellar, sections of wall and traces of a corner tower uncovered during excavations in 2017. The site lies along the Spessart cultural trail known as the Birkenhainer Straße.
