To make a day of it

Burg Gosheim stands in Huisheim (Landkreis Donau-Ries), in Bavaria, Germany. The building is a listed Baudenkmal. No visits are on record for this building.

Burg Gosheim survives only as a fragment built into the cemetery wall of the village of Gosheim, part of the municipality of Huisheim. The rusticated stone blocks of the Romanesque keep, still visible within the wall's masonry, are the clearest evidence of a medieval stronghold whose history is otherwise undocumented. On the inner face of the wall, remains of a defensive walkway and arrow slits can still be made out. This is less a monument to tour than a piece of masonry to read within the village setting.

What to know

  • The site is limited to a wall, that of the Gosheim cemetery, which incorporates remains of the former keep.
  • There are no opening hours or tickets, as the remains can be viewed freely from outside or around the cemetery.
  • The interest is mainly for those curious about medieval archaeology and stonework.
  • No information on accessibility or parking is available.
