Burg Hochhaus stands in Hohenaltheim (Landkreis Donau-Ries), in Bavaria, Germany. The building is a listed Baudenkmal. Its opening hours and prices have not been verified at the source yet.
Sitting more than 555 metres above the Kartäusertal, at the edge of the Ries crater, Burg Hochhaus survives only as a ruin, though an imposing one given the scale of its former defences. Founded around 1200 by a branch of the von Hürnheim family, it passed to the Counts of Oettingen in 1347, was rebuilt as a baroque Schloss in 1719, and was gutted by fire in 1749, after which it was never restored. Visitors can still make out the old Palas with its large window openings, a slender corner tower to the southwest, and the remains of the ditch system that once barred access to the plateau.
