The Burgstall Rauhaus marks the site of a former medieval stronghold overlooking the old Christgarten monastery, in the valley known as the Kartäusertal near Nördlingen. Built around 1200 by the Hürnheim-Rauhaus family, the castle has left no standing walls, only earthworks, ditches and an artificial mound that trace the former layout of an outer ward and a main fortified area at the tip of a ridge spur. The grounds, now lying within a private game enclosure, can be walked through freely, with no visitor facilities.
