The Burg Brauneck stands in ruins on a rocky spur above the Steinach valley near Creglingen, in the Main-Tauber-Kreis. Founded around 1230 by Konrad von Hohenlohe, it was one of the ancestral seats of the Hohenlohe family before passing through several owners to the Ströbel family, who still run it as a working farm. From outside, visitors can make out the massive shield wall, the square keep with its rusticated stonework, and the remains of a Romanesque chapel. Listed as a Kulturdenkmal in Baden-Württemberg, the site cannot be toured inside.
