Burg Gamburg stands in Werbach (Main-Tauber-Kreis), in Baden-Württemberg, Germany. The building is a listed Baudenkmal. Its opening hours and prices have not been verified at the source yet.
Burg Gamburg stands above the village of Gamburg, on a hill overlooking the Tauber valley in Baden-Württemberg. Built in the mid-12th century by the archbishops of Mainz, it has survived the centuries without ever being destroyed, an unusual fate for a fortress this old. Its palas still holds late Romanesque wall paintings, among the oldest surviving secular murals north of the Alps, depicting episodes from the Third Crusade led by Frederick Barbarossa. The castle remains privately owned and inhabited, a status dating back to the 16th century.
