The Kurmainzisches Schloss stands on the site of a 13th century town fortress in Tauberbischofsheim, of which only the round keep, known as the Türmersturm, has survived. In the 16th century the archbishop electors of Mainz had a schloss built around this tower to house their bailiffs, with a spacious courtyard and half-timbered sections alongside the stone structure. The building now houses the Tauberfränkisches Landschaftsmuseum, spread across seventeen rooms. The adjoining square, once a moat, hosts the town's Christmas market and an open-air cinema in summer.
