Burg Billig survives only as an earthen motte on the edge of the village of Billig, part of Euskirchen. The site may go back to Roman or Celtic times before a medieval stronghold was raised there, held by the Smeyge, or Schmeich, von Billig family within the lower lordship of Jülich toward the end of the 14th century. No walls or foundations remain today, only a roughly square mound some thirty metres across, ringed by spring-fed moats that still hold water.
