To make a day of it
Burg Bichishausen stands in Münsingen (Landkreis Reutlingen), in Baden-Württemberg, Germany. Admission is free. Its opening hours and prices have not been verified at the source yet.
Burg Bichishausen crowns a rocky spur above the Grosses Lautertal, overlooking the small hamlet of Bichishausen, part of Münsingen on the Swabian Jura. Built at the end of the 13th century by Konrad von Gundelfingen, it passed through several owners before falling into decay from the mid 16th century onward. Restored in the 1970s by the Landkreis Reutlingen, the ruin can now be freely visited, with its outer bailey, core castle with hall remains and the foundations of a keep around the inner courtyard. The main draw is the wide view over the valley and the village below.
What to know
- The ruin is freely accessible at any time, with no ticket or fixed opening hours.
- Plan for about an hour on site to climb to the top and take in the view.
- Reaching the upper levels involves a metal staircase that requires steady footing, best avoided in rain or snow.
- Parking is available nearby, roughly 300 metres from the ruin.
- The site is well suited to a late afternoon visit for the light over the valley.
