To make a day of it
Burg Berge stands in Odenthal (Rheinisch-Bergischer Kreis), in North Rhine-Westphalia, Germany. Its opening hours and prices have not been verified at the source yet.
Burg Berge marks the site of the first fortified seat of the Counts of Berg, raised around 1060 on a steep hilltop above the Dhünn river near what is now Odenthal-Altenberg. The family abandoned it in 1133 when they moved their residence to what later became Schloss Burg, and the site briefly hosted a Cistercian foundation before the monks settled further down the valley at Altenberg. Only scant stretches of stone wall and an artificial mound survive today, brought to light by archaeological excavations in 1981. Visitors encounter an open-air site with no standing buildings or reconstructions.
What to know
- The site consists of scattered wall remains and an artificial mound, with no standing building or reconstruction.
- No opening hours or admission fees are indicated, as the site is not run as a ticketed monument.

- The location lies close to Altenberg, whose abbey church can be combined with a visit to the same area.
