Burg Anstel stands in Rommerskirchen (Rhein-Kreis Neuss), in North Rhine-Westphalia, Germany. Its opening hours and prices have not been verified at the source yet.
Burg Anstel is a former moated castle in the Anstel district of Rommerskirchen, recognised as the oldest surviving civil building in the municipality. First recorded in 1155 under a certain Sigefridus de Anstele, it kept its original layout of an outer bailey and a main house surrounded by a water-filled moat even after being converted into a baroque residence in 1722. A brick bridge, likely replacing an earlier drawbridge, still links the two parts of the complex, and a coat-of-arms stone dated 1722 marks the entrance to the main house. The grounds now host a farm and an equestrian business, so access is generally limited to viewing the exterior.
What to know
- The site is used as a farm and an equestrian centre, so access to the interior is generally not possible.
- From outside, visitors can see the brick bridge crossing the moat and the 1722 coat-of-arms stone.
- No opening hours or admission fees are published, as the place is not set up for tourism.
- The castle stands in the small settlement of Anstel, outside the main village of Rommerskirchen.
