To make a day of it

Burg Friedestrom stands in Dormagen (Rhein-Kreis Neuss), in North Rhine-Westphalia, Germany. The building is a listed Baudenkmal. Its opening hours and prices have not been verified at the source yet.

Burg Friedestrom stands within the walled town of Zons, a district of Dormagen, on the bank of the Rhine. Built from 1373 onward by the Archbishop of Cologne Friedrich III of Saarwerden to guard the Rhine toll moved there from Neuss, it formed part of a chain of fortresses protecting the territory of the Electorate of Cologne. After centuries of decline, sieges, and conversion into a farming estate, it now houses a cultural centre established by the former Kreis Neuss. Visitors can still see the converted keep, the gate tower, successive walls, and the outer bailey buildings.
