To make a day of it

Bodendenkmal in Perkam, #D-2-7140-0184 stands in Perkam (Landkreis Straubing-Bogen), in Bavaria, Germany. Its opening hours and prices have not been verified at the source yet.

This site marks the former location of a medieval motte, a Turmhügelburg, that once stood just east of the Assumption church in Thalkirchen, a hamlet belonging to the municipality of Perkam in Bavaria. The structure itself has long since vanished: only the land, lying between the village church and school, preserves its memory as a wooded mound. Old survey maps still recorded a steep slope with a rampart and ditch running eastward, but these features can no longer be made out on the ground.

What to know

  • No standing structure remains of the motte, only a wooded mound marks the former site.
  • The plot lies between the village church and school in the hamlet of Thalkirchen, with no visitor facilities.
  • There are no opening hours or admission fees, as the site is an open outdoor plot of land.
  • A visit mainly involves noting the shape of the ground, rather than seeing any architectural remains.
