The Hutterhof earthwork is an archaeological site marking the location of a former medieval motte, now vanished above ground, lying just southeast of the hamlet of Hutterhof within the town of Bogen. What remains is an artificial mound roughly 30 metres across and about 2 metres high, once surrounded by a broad water-filled ditch, part of which survives as a pond. This is not a castle open for visits in the usual sense, but a trace of an earthen fortification that an attentive walker can still make out in the landscape.
What to know
- No standing structure remains, only the shape of the ground still shows the former motte.
- The site lies in open countryside near a former side arm of the Danube, with no known visitor facilities.
- Access is via the hamlet of Hutterhof, southeast of which the mound is located.
- No opening hours, fees, or organised access are documented for this site.
- Visiting amounts to viewing the earthwork and the adjacent pond from outside.
