The Alte Burg is the ruined remnant of a moated stronghold tucked away in a wooded area near the hamlet of Elbgrund, part of the municipality of Elbtal. It served as the ancestral seat of the minor noble family Walpot von Waldmannshausen, who later built a newer residence close by in 1486. What survives today is a stretch of wall, an archway, and the stumps of two round towers, all that remains of a rectangular fortification once encircled by a water-filled moat and an earthen rampart. Around 1800 parts of the grounds were reshaped, including the planting of oak trees.
