What the French Ministry of Culture records
Edifice élevé entre 1860 et 1870 pour le collectionneur Georges de Monbrison, par l'architecte Olivier, collaborateur de Viollet-le-duc à Moissac. Disposé sur une terrasse à flanc de colline, il comporte deux ailes en équerre. Un grand porche en plein cintre communique au centre avec une arrière-cour bordée, sur un côté, par des remises. Le château et son décor forment un ensemble néo-gothique et Renaissance. Les communs ont été construits vers 1880. Leur ordonnance est rompue par la présence d'un pavillon décoré de pans de bois. Un pigeonnier domine l'ensemble. Le château possède plusieurs pièces richement décorées en 1864-1869, avec plafonds et murs peints. Les dessins du peintre décorateur Lechevallier-Chevignard pour le décor du grand salon ont été conservés. Le parc fut conçu et réalisé en 1881-1882 par l'architecte paysagiste Edouard André.
