The château du Vieux Chambord stands on a rise overlooking the Besbre valley, facing Chavroches, in the commune of Treteau in the Allier department. This former fortified house, built at the end of the 14th century, retains its square keep rising 28 metres high, flanked by turrets with two levels each, an unusual feature in the region. Altered over the centuries and converted into a residence in the 19th century, it remains a notable example of fortified architecture in the Bourbonnais.
