Château du Barroux stands in Le Barroux (Vaucluse), in the Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur region of France. The building is listed as a historic monument (dating recorded in the Mérimée database: 18th century). Adult admission costs 8.5 EUR. Its opening hours and prices were verified at the source on August 4, 2026.
Standing on its rocky spur above the village of Le Barroux, this castle overlooks the plain of the Dentelles de Montmirail amid vineyards and olive groves. Originally a feudal keep, it was embellished during the Renaissance before being turned into a stronghold following Vauban-style fortification methods at the end of the 17th century. Ruined and later rebuilt in the 20th century after a wartime fire during the Occupation, it now houses a chapel decorated with 18th-century wall paintings. Visitors come for the defensive architecture, the view towards Mont Ventoux and the cultural events held on site.
