To make a day of it

Château des Vaux stands in Saint-Maurice-Saint-Germain (Eure-et-Loir), in the Centre-Val de Loire region of France. No visits are on record for this building.

The château des Vaux stands astride the villages of Pontgouin and Saint-Maurice-Saint-Germain, in the Perche region of Eure-et-Loir. Originally built in the 17th century for Charles de Roussin, it was reshaped from 1847 onward by the Marquis d'Aligre into a sprawling residence of more than three hundred rooms, built to host large stag hunts. The formal gardens, the park crossed by the diverted Eure river, and the small garden temple still recall that 19th century grandeur. Since 1946 the estate has belonged to the Apprentis d'Auteuil foundation, which uses it to house young people in difficulty.
