To make a day of it

Château de Tillières-sur-Avre stands in Tillières-sur-Avre (Eure), in the Normandie region of France. The building is listed as a historic monument (dating recorded in the Mérimée database: milieu 16th century). Its opening hours and prices have not been verified at the source yet.

Perched on a hillside above the Avre valley, this castle preserves the traces of a stronghold founded in the early 11th century to guard the southern border of the Duchy of Normandy. Visitors can trace the different building phases on site: a 12th-century round tower and curtain walls to the north, 16th-century terraces and bastions to the south, and an 1835 residential building erected on Renaissance foundations. The large lawn planted with lime trees, once the parade ground of the medieval fortress, opens onto views of the village of Tillières-sur-Avre and the surrounding countryside.
