To make a day of it

Château d'Hellenvilliers stands in Mesnils-sur-Iton (Eure), in the Normandie region of France. The building is registered as a historic monument (dating recorded in the Mérimée database: 15th century, 16th century, 18th century, 19th century). The building is privately owned and no visits are on record.

At Mesnils-sur-Iton, in the Eure department, Hellenvilliers castle was first built in the 15th century by René de Mainemares before being extended over several building phases up to the early 18th century. Its left wing already stood when Henri IV is said to have stopped there in 1590, shortly before the Battle of Ivry. The chapel, damaged by a fire in 1792, was later restored. The estate, passed down through marriages and inheritance among several Norman families, remains in the hands of their descendants.
