To make a day of it

Château de Tourtel stands in Tantonville (Meurthe-et-Moselle), in the Grand Est region of France. No visits are on record for this building.

The château de Tourtel in Tantonville, Meurthe-et-Moselle, takes its name from brothers Jules and Prosper Tourtel, who founded a brewery there in 1839, the origin of the beer brand that later became well known. The industrial site saw notable technical advances, including early refrigeration machinery and Pasteur's research on fermentation carried out there in the 1870s. The buildings were largely destroyed during the Second World War, after German forces stored looted goods there before demolishing the site during their retreat. The ruins were bought in 1948 by another brewery, which moved Tourtel beer production elsewhere.
