In Vandœuvre-lès-Nancy, the Charmois château seen today is not the building erected in the 1720s by the Nancy painter Charles-Joseph Gilles, but a neo-Gothic manor put up in 1896 on the same grounds after the original house was pulled down. Its 25-metre tower, large windows facing the park and ceremonial staircase recall the bourgeois villas built in Nancy around the same time. The three-hectare park surrounding it, laid out in the English style, is registered as a bird sanctuary.
