To make a day of it

Château de Bainville-aux-Miroirs stands in Bainville-aux-Miroirs (Meurthe-et-Moselle), in the Grand Est region of France. Its opening hours and prices have not been verified at the source yet.

Above the Moselle river, on a rocky spur next to the church and a former priory, stand the remains of a stronghold built in the thirteenth century by the counts of Vaudémont. Destroyed by Lorraine's troops in 1468 and never rebuilt, it later served for centuries as a source of reclaimed stone and is now reduced to a few sections of masonry. The most striking remnant is a stone spire some twenty-six metres high, the last trace of an oval keep whose walls reached up to eight metres thick in places. Near its top the springing of a ribbed vault can still be made out, and at its base a partly preserved vaulted hall remains.
