To make a day of it

Château de Strohburg stands in Wasserbourg (Haut-Rhin), in the Grand Est region of France. No visits are on record for this building.

On the eastern slopes of the Petit Ballon, within the Kieferwald forest, lie the ruins of Strohburg castle, a medieval stronghold of which only the outline of the ditches and a few low wall sections remain today. Built between the early 11th and early 12th century, it is thought to have supported settlers clearing the surrounding land, then divided between the bishopric of Constance and the abbey of Payerne. Its forested isolation and uncertain history, long confused with the nearby Wassenberg castle, make it a stop for hikers interested in faint traces rather than visitors seeking a restored monument.
