To make a day of it

Château de Haut-Eguisheim stands in Eguisheim (Haut-Rhin), in the Grand Est region of France. Its opening hours and prices have not been verified at the source yet.

Perched on a sandstone ridge above the Alsace plain, straddling the villages of Eguisheim and Husseren-les-Châteaux, stand the remains of three fortresses born from a single early medieval stronghold. The site, often called the Three Castles, tells the story of the Dagsbourg, Wahlenbourg and Weckmund strongholds, which grew out of an eleventh-century fortress linked to the family of future pope Leo IX. Visitors today walk among ruined keeps and traces of occupation dating back to the Bronze Age, amid wooded ridgetop scenery.
