To make a day of it

Château de Saint-Pompon stands in Saint-Pompon (Dordogne), in the Nouvelle-Aquitaine region of France. The building is registered as a historic monument (dating recorded in the Mérimée database: 16th century). Its opening hours and prices have not been verified at the source yet.

In Saint-Pompon, in the heart of the Périgord noir, stands a castle whose origins trace back to a commandery of the Knights Hospitaller of Saint-John-of-Jerusalem, first mentioned in 1269. The square keep, with its corbelled watch-path carved with clover motifs, survived the fire set by Geoffroy de Vivans's troops in 1589. Visitors can also see the 15th-century residential wing with mullioned windows and a 16th-century well in the courtyard.
