In Monestiés, in the Tarn department, the château de Saint-Hippolyte is a closed quadrangle built around a courtyard, flanked by corner towers and including a chapel that later became the parish church. Behind its plain facades lies an eventful past, including a siege during the Wars of Religion and later alterations, most visibly those carried out in the 19th century under the Vicomte Decazes. Close inspection of the windows still reveals traces of former mullioned openings and a few defensive features such as arrow slits.
