What the French Ministry of Culture records

Le château est formé d'un corps de logis sensiblement carré, baigné au sud par le Tarn et entouré d'un fossé sur les autres côtés. Les angles nord-est et nord-ouest sont cantonnés de tours circulaires entre lesquelles fait saillie une tour carrée plus élevée. L'angle sud-ouest est formé d'une tour carrée incluse dans la façade et remontant au 17e siècle. Au sud-est se trouve une tour en fer à cheval, reliée à la façade sud par un pan coupé. Toutes les superstructures ont été restaurées ou refaites aux 19e et 20e siècles. La construction d'origine est entièrement englobée dans l'édifice actuel. La tour sud-ouest conserve un cabinet peint dont le décor est daté de 1637 et signé Prunier. Le cabinet est dit "des nymphes du Tarn" car le plafond est divisé en huit panneaux comprenant chacun un portrait de femme dans un médaillon. Ce décor constitue un jalon important dans l'étude des motifs ornementaux de tradition maniériste.
