Château de Saint-Saturnin stands in Saint-Saturnin (Lozère), in the Occitanie region of France. The building is listed as a historic monument (dating recorded in the Mérimée database: 14th century, 16th century, first quarter of the 17th century). Its opening hours and prices have not been verified at the source yet.
Set at the foot of the cliffs of the Causse de Sauveterre in Lozère, the château de Saint-Saturnin retains a square keep dating from the late 13th or early 14th century, thought to be the only royal keep still standing in the Lot valley. The building forms a quadrangle flanked by three round towers and this square tower topped with machicolations, with a residential wing added in the 16th century. Long held by the Montferrand family, related to Pope Urban V, the château fell into ruin and nearly disappeared before being rebuilt stone by stone from 1995 onwards by its present owners. A local legend also survives, tied to old feudal customs and a punishment once carried out in the château's dungeons.
