Château de Rauzan stands in Rauzan (Gironde), in the Nouvelle-Aquitaine region of France. The building is listed as a historic monument (dating recorded in the Mérimée database: 14th century, 15th century). Its opening hours and prices have not been verified at the source yet.
Perched on a rock inhabited since antiquity, Rauzan castle was built by John Lackland, then Duke of Guyenne and King of England. Captured by Bertrand Du Guesclin in 1377, this witness to the Hundred Years' War passed through the hands of the Madaillan family, then the Durfort de Duras, before falling into neglect that cost it its northern section, stripped by Bordeaux quarrymen in the 19th century. Visitors today can see a cylindrical 14th-century keep, seigneurial lodgings remodeled in the 15th century, and an honour tower with a flamboyant gothic doorway.

What to know
- The site sits on a rocky outcrop, so expect uneven ground and some level changes.
- The castle is a set of ruins and remnants, not a fully roofed building.
- The outer wall of the lower courtyard has held separate protected status since 1993.
- The visit takes place mostly outdoors, so weather conditions matter.
- The town of Rauzan has owned the site since 1900.
