In Saint-Cernin, in the Cantal department, the château de Ragheaud (also called Rageaux) centres on a 15th-century main building flanked with corner turrets topped by machicolations, later complemented by a 17th-century octagonal stair tower still bearing Renaissance touches. An 18th-century wing and two outbuilding pavilions extended the property, and its interior rooms, panelled in a rustic Louis XV style, have kept their original decor since that period. The estate passed through the hands of the de Reghaud, de La Garde de Saignes, de Corn de Queyssac, de Grenier de Pleaux and finally de Calonne d'Avesne families, from the medieval period to the late 19th century.
