Château de Quirieu stands in Bouvesse-Quirieu (Isère), in the Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes region of France. Its opening hours and prices have not been verified at the source yet.
Set on a limestone bluff above the Rhône, Quirieu castle survives mainly as an open site, the remains of a former Dauphiné stronghold dismantled in the seventeenth century. Visitors come less for standing walls than for the scale of the fortified plateau, where the outline of a vanished medieval village, its cobbled lanes and the remains of a fifteenth-century fortified house can still be traced. The Sainte-Catherine chapel, the only building left largely intact, marks the old parish centre of the settlement.

What to know
- The site is visited outdoors, on a plateau of several hectares that involves walking on natural ground.
- Of the castle itself only an open esplanade remains, since the towers and keep were razed.
- The Sainte-Catherine chapel and a few low walls from the medieval village are the most visible built remains.
- Reaching the site means climbing a hill before arriving at the fortified plateau.
- A local association organises the upkeep and events on the site.
