Its historical significance lies in the First World War: General Mangin set up his command post there before launching, on 11 June 1918, the counterattack of Méry Courcelles, which halted the German advance on Compiègne. The whole property, including the entrance pavilions, gate, avenue, outbuildings and dovecote, has been listed as a historic monument since 1949. Today the estate operates mainly as a private rental venue rather than a site open for public visits.
