Château de Boulogne-sur-Mer stands in Boulogne-sur-Mer (Pas-de-Calais), in the Hauts-de-France region of France. The building is listed as a historic monument (dating recorded in the Mérimée database: 13th century, 16th century, 18th century, 19th century). Adult admission costs 7.5 EUR. Its opening hours and prices have not been verified at the source yet.
Built in the 13th century at the corner of the old town's ramparts, Boulogne-sur-Mer castle, also known as château d'Aumont, forms with its walls one of the few surviving intact medieval fortified complexes in France. Turned into a museum in 1988, it still shows its nine round towers, its curtain walls and, underground, the vaulted hall known as 'la Barbière', a striking remnant of the original building. Used as a prison until 1974, it has since regained a cultural role while keeping its fortress character.
