The château de Palmont stands in Fontanges, in the Cantal department, built around a rectangular keep raised in 1480 by Guy de Fontanges on the remains of an earlier stronghold. A circular stair tower and a second, partly embedded tower on the north front mark its exterior. Inside, the stacked rooms across five floors retain, in places, their original woodwork, particularly on the second floor. A smaller house was added against the keep during the 19th century.
