Built in the 14th century on the orders of Gaston Fébus, this fortified castle guarded the Béarn frontier facing English-held Gascony. Raised in eight years by the architect Sicard de Lordat on a circular mound surrounded by a water-filled moat, it retains its polygonal curtain wall and two towers around a manor house restored in the 20th century. Inside are furniture, tapestries and paintings, including drawings attributed to La Tour and Fragonard.
