What the French Ministry of Culture records
L'antiquité du château est connue par une charte du 11e siècle. Ce fief faisait partie du diocèse et de la généralité de Bourges, mais était du ressort féodal et judiciaire de Tours. Du château médiéval, compris dans une enceinte en forme d'ellipse entourée de fossés, il ne reste que des ruines : trois tours rondes entre lesquelles s'élevaient les corps de bâtiments refaits vraisemblablement à partir de 1464 par Louis d'Angou. A partir de 1750, le château cessa d'être entretenu. Sa destruction, ordonnée par un décret de la convention d'août 1793, fut progressive. En 1836, le portail d'entrée, le donjon, la chapelle et les dépendances avaient disparu.
