Château de Messilhac stands in Raulhac (Cantal), in the Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes region of France. The building is listed as a historic monument (dating recorded in the Mérimée database: 13th century, 14th century, 16th century). Adult admission costs 9 EUR. Its opening hours and prices have not been verified at the source yet.
Set on a rocky spur above the Goul valley, Messilhac combines an 11th century Romanesque keep with a Renaissance main building raised in 1531. Two square towers topped by a machicolated wall-walk flank a sculpted facade, while a staircase with ribbed vaults leads to rooms that still hold their coffered ceilings and monumental fireplaces. The castle was used as a filming location for Bertrand Tavernier's film La Princesse de Montpensier, shot in 2009.
