Castellum de Maloleone cité pour la première fois vers 1080. Reconstruction des fortifications de la ville et du château au début du 13e siècle. Destruction pendant les guerres de religion (16e siècle). Ce qui restait des murailles est rasé au 17e siècle sur ordre de Richelieu. Construction au 18e siècle de la sénéchaussée sur l'esplanade du château.
