The Château de Malmaison, in Rueil-Malmaison, was the home of Joséphine de Beauharnais, purchased in 1799, and later the main residence of the imperial couple during the Consulate. Napoleon I and Joséphine had the building renovated by architects Percier and Fontaine, and the estate remained politically significant until the couple's divorce in 1809. Joséphine lived there until her death and received Tsar Alexander I at Malmaison. The site now presents this Napoleonic era through its rooms and collections.
