The old château de la Vaivre stands alone in the floodplain of the Arroux, near Rigny-sur-Arroux. Built for the Ganay family in the 16th century on earlier foundations, it retains a square tower pierced with gun loops and a doorway framed by Tuscan pilasters beneath a carved pediment. Abandoned in the 19th century when a newer residence was built at the edge of the nearby forest, it is now privately owned and not open to visitors.
